Guida gravel a Maiorca
Surfaces, tyre choice, access etiquette and the best styles of gravel riding across Mallorca.
Two distinct gravel experiences
Mallorca gravel ranges from fast agricultural camí roads in the central plain to rougher forest and stone tracks near the Tramuntana. A route described as gravel may include deep ruts, loose limestone or hike-a-bike, so distance is a poor proxy for difficulty.
| Zone | Surface | Ideal setup | Character |
|---|---|---|---|
| Central plain | Farm roads and compact dirt | 38–42 mm | Fast, rolling, exposed |
| Tramuntana foothills | Rock and forest track | 42–48 mm | Technical and shaded |
| Llevant | Dry coastal tracks | 40–45 mm | Scenic and remote |
Bike setup
A 40–45 mm tubeless tyre is the versatile choice. Lower pressure improves grip, but sharp rock still rewards robust casings and sensible line choice. Carry plugs, a tube, a reliable pump and a quick link.
Checklist pratica
- Tubeless sealant refreshed
- Spare tube and plugs
- Low climbing gears
- Offline navigation
- Extra water for remote tracks
Access and conditions
Respect gates, private-property signs and seasonal restrictions. Do not assume a mapped line is publicly rideable. After heavy rain, clay tracks can become damaging and nearly impassable; choose paved alternatives rather than widening trails.
A local guide adds real value on technical or access-sensitive routes, particularly for a first Tramuntana gravel day.
