Rental versus bringing your own bike
Renting removes airline handling risk and saves assembly time, while your own bike guarantees familiar fit and equipment. For short trips, rental convenience often wins; for highly specific fit, power-meter or gearing needs, travelling with your own bike can be worthwhile.

Reserve the right specification
Frame size alone is not enough. Send saddle height, rider height and preferred reach, then confirm cassette range, brake type, pedal system and whether a repair kit is included. Compact gearing or a wide cassette is sensible for Sa Calobra and repeated Tramuntana climbs.

The collection inspection
Photograph the frame and components before leaving. Test both brakes, shift across the cassette, check tyre condition and confirm both through-axle levers or tools are present. Take a ten-minute setup ride before the shop closes.
Return terms should explain cleaning, punctures, crash damage and late return. Do not leave a mechanical concern until the morning of a major route.
